As you start preparing to sell your dental practice, one of the most important things on your checklist of things to do includes updating your website. A professional, up-to-date website is considered a valuable asset in your dental practice transition and will make a positive impact on any dental practice valuation and appraisal.

Here’s a simple checklist of what items to include on your website:

  1. Create a visually appealing home page with professional, high-resolution images and concise copy. It’s recommended that you hire a professional for this. A web designer and a web content writer can make sure your website draws readers in, keeps them on your page and converts them to paying clients.
  2. Use professional photographs. Images of your practice, including the reception area, treatment area and professional, consistent photographs of all of your staff help readers feel connected to you. This helps patients understand what to expect before they even walk in your door.
  3. Include details on each dentist in the practice. This should include their specialty (if applicable), where they studied, community involvement, and family background. To add a personal touch you can also include their interests and hobbies here.
  4. Provide a clear list of procedures offered within the practice. Also include the latest technology used and the newest equipment that the practice has on this page.
  5. Maintain a blog. Your blog should have posts with valuable information for your patients and the general public.
  6. Include links to resources. Provide links to resources such as the American Dental Association and other reputable organizations that provide valuable information to your patients.
  7. Use testimonials from current patients. Short summaries and even before and after pictures of patients are very helpful to the general public.
  8. Offer clear links to your social media pages.
  9. Present clear and up-to-date contact info.  Keep this on every page at both the top and bottom (header and footer) as well as at the end of each blog post.

Do not load up your dental practice website with animations or special effects. These features are distracting and can make your page load slowly. Many patients that land on a slow-loading site will likely move on to a different website.

Make sure your website is easy to navigate with each section clearly labeled in tabs, preferably at the top of the page. Include anchor links within the text portions of the site to guide readers back to essential information without leaving your site.
